A Challenging day at Virgin Media
Yesterday (17/10/11) Tony spent the day at the Covent Garden offices of Virgin Media, as a member of the Virgin Media Pioneers he was invited to take part in an 'Innovation Workshop' aimed at brainstorming innovative ideas to help tackle a challenge that is at the centre of their future strategy:
How can Virgin Media leverage its existing four products and existing technology to deliver a full blooded communication and entertainment experience for its customers?
There were 18 'Pioneers' invited for the day, they were split into small teams of 2 or 3, each team worked alongside a member of Virgin Media staff. During the day they worked with their team to develop their ideas.
The day culminated with each of the teams presenting their best idea to a panel of Virgin Media staff judges, who represent each of the Virgin Media products areas and strategy.
Yesterday's workshop was known as 'Semi Final Day' as these pioneers had been chosen as the more interesting ideas from a larger number of entries for the challenge.
The winning team from the 17th October workshop – plus runner up teams who have ideas that the panel of judges also believe are worth pursuing, will be invited to enter the 'Final' stage by taking away their idea to create a detailed and actionable business plan. Each team will then be invited back to Virgin Media offices in London to present this plan in late November.
This final winning team will get a prize of £3000 for their team – and the opportunity to see their product put into development – and hopefully implementation!
Tony said "It was a really enjoyable day and it was great meeting the Virgin Media staff and talking with the other Pioneers, presenting our idea to the judges was like being on Dragon's Den - A very nerve wracking experience!"
